The stuff you no longer need will help fund the cure for breast cancer

Yard Sale for the Cure is an organization that raises money for Breast Cancer research and treatment by holding a massive series of Yard Sales in selected neighbourhoods across Canada. In 2005, the inaugural event was held in the Toronto Beaches. It was a huge success, raised $45 000 and brought people together with a great sense of community and purpose. Now a growing number of people from across Canada are taking on this idea and Yard Sale for the Cure will be launched in markets across the country.

Yard Sale for the Cure will be widely publicized and advertised in each of the communities, so lots of people will be attracted to shop at your Yard Sale. In fact, in 2006, $3.2 million dollars of PR and over $200 thousand in free media was secured to help promote the one event.

Donors will be able to choose one of more of the following charities to direct their donation:

National Charity

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation joins us as our sole National charity. The largest, national volunteer-led organization dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer, the Foundation funds research and community projects across the entire spectrum of breast cancer including prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment and care. Donations can be directed to any of the Foundation’s regional chapters, enabling you to direct your dollars to regional initiatives.

• You register your yard sale at www.yardsaleforthecure.com or mark the date in your calendar to shop
• You pay a small registration fee of $20 online, ($22 for registrations made offline) to get your yard sale kit (which includes a lawn sign, hat, pink balloons, posters, information card and registration in our shopping services mapping system)
• On May 31 2008, you hold a Yard Sale to get rid of all the stuff you no longer need
• or you go out and shop for bargains, treasures and stuff you do need
• all the while you get to know your neighbours better
• Everyone chips in to help beat breast cancer.
• You choose how much you want to donate and go back to the website to donate on line or use the form to donate offline
• You get an automatic charitable receipt
